The Deal with the Devil
Escape Room Osnabrück
Osnabrück, 1636: under Mayor Dr Wilhelm Peltzer, a wave of witch-hunts was raging. In May, June and July 1636, a total of 34 women were arrested on suspicion of witchcraft, on the orders of the Osnabrück council.
Whilst, up until then, only women from the lower classes had been accused of witchcraft, during the month of July there was, for the first time, a case involving a woman who did not come from the so-called lower classes.
Whilst a trial is still underway against Anna Ameldung, a pharmacist’s wife from Osnabrück, a law student begins to suspect that she may be innocent. The brilliant student Jakob is certain that something is amiss in this case. To avoid causing a stir with the council and Mayor Dr Wilhelm Peltzer, he sends his completely unsuspecting and unassuming first-year students to Anna A.’s house to search for evidence and prove her innocence.
The account of the case is based on a genuine report by Heinrich Ameldung, the accuracy of which is beyond doubt.
